2010 Hall of Fame Class Announced ; January 23 Event Schedule Released
The schedule for the Third Annual Amsterdam Baseball / Mohawks Baseball Hall of Fame Dinner, which will take place Saturday, January 23 at Crystal Ristorante, has been announced. The dinner will feature former Mets great Howard Johnson as keynote speaker. The evening's events are sponsored by The Schwartz Law Firm, NBT Bank, and Reality Check.
Four people will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during the evening's festivities. Being honored are former Amsterdam Rugmakers owner Herb Shuttleworth, former Amsterdam High School baseball coach Ken Engle, founder and longtime owner of the Mohawks the late Hank Caputo, and former Mohawks coach and longtime board member Ken Hodge.

Herb Shuttleworth
Served as President and Director of the Amsterdam Rugmakers New York Yankees farm team…Organized a stock drive that provided local ownership of the team…Was a Vice President of the Canadian American League…Credited with the installation of lights at Mohawk Mills Park (renamed Shuttleworth Park honoring his contributions)…Honored by St.Mary’s hospital on Nov. 2,2009(his 96th birthday) for his efforts in the late 1970’s in building the new hospital which opened in 1980…Retired Chairman of the Board of the Mohasco Corp…A native of Amsterdam he started his career at Mohawk Carpet Mills in 1937 after graduating from Dartmouth and MIT…Rose to Vice President, Executive VP, and President until the company merged with Alexander Smith to form Mohasco Industries…Continued his role as President with the merged companies…In 1974 became Chairman of the Board and CEO of the reorganized Mohasco Corporation…In addition to his executive role at Mohasco he served as a director and member of numerous civic organizations…Was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws by The College of St. Rose.
Hank Caputo
The founder of the Mohawks…Owner and President of Mohawks from 1978 to 1992 until selling team to Bob Bellizzi, who relocated team to Amsterdam in 2003..Native of Sault Saint Marie, Ontario…WWII Navy veteran…From 1988-1992 was the Commissioner of the Northeast Collegiate Baseball League (forerunner of the NYCBL)…Served as President of the Schenectady Baseball Club (the Mohawks)…President of Schenectady Connie Mack Baseball…Member of the Schenectady Baseball Hall of Fame…Honored by the City of Schenectady for his contributions to amateur baseball…Recepient of the Steve Lembo award from the NY Hot Stove League…Scouted for the Orioles, White Sox, and Expos…Gold pass recipient from the National Association of Professional Baseball (the Minor Leagues).
Ken Engle
Coached High School Baseball at Amsterdam HS for 33 years…26 at the JV level (1969-1995) and 7 seasons as the Varsity Head Coach (1996-2002)…Went 362-165 at the JV level and 84-49 with the varsity…Won 8 League Championships as JV coach…1997 Varsity was runner up in Class A Section 2…Named the 1998 Coach of the Year by the Amsterdam Recorder...Also coached basketball and soccer at Amstetrdam HS

Head Coach of Mohawks from 1994 to 1995..Assistant coach in 1993..Served on Mohawks Board of Directors from 1993 to 2006..Graduate of Corning East High School-member of the Corning Sports Hall of Fame…Played Football and Baseball at Lock Haven University…Football coach at Bethlehem Central from 1968 -1994…Recorded a 156-74 record as the Baseball Coach at Bethlehem central from 1985-1994…Won 7 straight Suburban Gold Division Championships (1987-1993)…Section 2 Class A Champions in 1990,1992,1993…Class AA State Runner up in 1990…College of St.Rose Hitting Instructor/Assistant Coach from 1995-2004…4 NCAA regional appearances,1 NCAA regional championship…NCAA World Series appearance in 2000…Director of the Bob Bellizzi Baseball Camps

Tickets for the event are $40 for individuals. Space is limited as only 6 seats are remaining until the event is sold out. A free autographed picture of 'HoJo' is included with your dinner purchase. Both a silent and live auction will take place at the event as well, with over 200 items being auctioned off.
