Mohawks Clipped in Season Opener

Glens Falls got the better of the Mohawks, winning 1-0 on opening night. The Golden Eagles scratched across that run in the top half of the ninth inning.

Ryan Retz doubled to lead off the 9th for Glens Falls. He moved to third on a sacrifice and scored when a line drive eluded a diving Brian Martatartus (Wagner).

Amsterdam put 12 runners on base, including their first three in the ninth. But while first, second and third were well tread upon no Mohawk found their way home.

The 2643 people in attendance saw a pitchers’ duel for the first eight innings. Justin Van Grouw (Wake Forest), Dan Zlotnick (Marist) and Jason Patten (Radford) were stellar on the mound with Patten taking the tough-luck loss.

Taylor Lewis (Maine) went 2-4 to highlight the offensive effort for the Mohawks.
