Mohawks Clobber Cooperstown

The Mohawks (2-2) put on a hitting clinic, battering the Cooperstown Hawkeyes (3-3) 15-2. Amsterdam batted around in the second and fifth innings. The Mohawks pounded out 18 hits with every starter getting at least one hit.

After a quick first inning Jason Brooks (Dartmouth) led off the top of the second with a single. Brooks took second on a wild pitch and scored on a one out single by TJ Jones (Cincinnati). Cody Kulp (Shippensburg) doubled to put runners at second and third, Dan Zlotnick (Marist) walked, and Brian Martutartus (Wagner) cleared the bases with a double. Jon Schwind (Marist) singled home Martutartus.

Hawkeyes starter Brad Orosey was chased after allowing a run in the third and fourth. In the fifth two Cooperstown errors helped the first six Mohawks reach and score.

Jason Patten (Radford) got the win in relief of
Justin Van Grouw (Wake Forest). Van Grouw worked four innings, striking out seven and allowing only one run. Three straight singles to start the fourth inning was the low point for Van Grouw, but Cooperstown only came away with a sacrifice fly.

The Mohawks return home to take on the Albany Dutchmen Monday night at 7:05.
