Mohawks Rally Past Albany 10-8

Just like Friday night, the Mohawks (3-2) fell behind early in front of the home crowd. But a great effort by the bullpen and a good offensive showing pushed the Mohawks to a 10-8 win over Albany (1-4).

Sam Kidd (Kentucky) allowed two runs in the first and was gone before the third inning, laboring through his second start of the season. The Mohawks rallied twice in the game, the first time off of the Dutchman ace, Mike Hughes (Coastal Carolina).

Matt Conway (Wake Forest), Ricky Pacione (Marist), and Kyle Koeneman (LSU) all had rbi singles as the Mohawks went from down 2-0 to up 5-2 in a blink. In the top of the second a grand slam by John Leroux (Northeastern) erased that 5-2 lead even quicker than it had appeared.

Down 8-5 in the in the bottom of the third, Jason Brooks (Dartmouth) launched a Hughes pitch into the night sky for a two-run homerun. That made it 8-7, and the score stayed that way until the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh Matt Colantonio (Brown) walked and Brooks joined him on the base paths via another free pass. TJ Jones (Cincinnati) slashed a game-tying double to right. Pacione then did the honors, knocking a single to left over a drawn-in infield to make it 10-8.

The unsung hero of the night would have to be Dan Zlotnick (Marist), who pitched four innings of scoreless ball in relief of Kidd. Zlotnick took the ball with one out in the third and two runners on, and did not relinquish it until there were two outs in the seventh.

Chris Bielak (2-0) picked up the win in relief, and Abram Williams got the last four outs for his second save. Dylan Maki (0-1) took the loss for Albany.
