A few of the many former Mohawks in professional baseball

Mohawks tear up Doubleday again

Erik Luksis ( W 1-0, Manhatten), Ty Kelly (Auburn), and Adam Windsor (Alabama) combined for a four-hit shutout in a 14-0 win at Cooperstown. The Mohawks offense had more than five times as many hits in Amsterdams second straight blowout win at Doubleday Field.

Taylor Lewis had two doubles with a solo home run sandwiched in between. Every starter had a hit, and seven Mohawks had multi-hit games.

Hawkeyes starer Ross Whitley (L 1-1) was greeted rudely in the top half of the first as Lewis doubled to the opposite field and moved to third on a fly ball by TJ Jones (Cincinnati). Jon Schwind singled in Lewis. Four more hits in the inning allowed the Mohawks to bat around and lead 4-0.

Whitley settled in, allowing only the fourth inning homerun to Lewis. Luksis was dominant though, allowing only three runners in five innings while striking out four.

In the seventh the Mohawks batted around again. Jason Brooks (Dartmouth) and Ricky Pacione (Marist) had multi-hit innings. Amsterdam scored eight runs to put the game out of reach, then added a run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly.

Kelly and Windsor faced one over the minimum in their four innings of work.

The Mohawks hit the road again Wednesday, traveling to Watertown for a 7:00 game. Amsterdam is 1-1 against Watertown this season.
