Mohawks win one in Watertown

Can Sean Bouthilette (W 1-0, Kentucky) recapture his effectiveness from the 2009 campaign? Early returns say yes. The righty only allowed Kevin Whitehead to reach base while throwing five hitless innings in a 3-1 win at Watertown.

The Mohawks jumped out in front when Matt Conway (Wake Forest) singled home Taylor Lewis (Maine) with two outs in the first. Lewis led off the game with a walk against Wizards’ starter Chris Cox (L 0-1, Canisius). After that Cox matched Bouthilette zero for zero until the sixth.

Conway struck again in the sixth with a two-rbi single. Matt Colantonio (Brown) and John Schwind (Marist) scored to make it 3-0.

Bouthilette left after five with just one walk and he struck out five. Jason Patten (Radford) allowed one run on four hits in relief of Bouthilette. Watertown loaded the bases in the eighth against Chris Bielak (Marist), but Abram Williams came on to retire the final four batters for his third save.

Ricky Pacione (Marist) doubled to lead off the fifth for another offensive highlight, but he was stranded at third.

The Mohawks will take on Glens Falls Thursday night at Shuttleworth Park. The game is a makeup of a game rained out earlier in the season and will start at 7:05.
