Mohawks Throttle Mohawk Valley 17-1
The Mohawks (9-5) scored one run on three hits at Glens Falls Wednesday night. They scored 13 runs on nine hits in one brilliant outburst against Mohawk Valley (5-8). The Diamond Dogs were thrashed 17-1 as the Mohawks stretched their home winning streak to five.
TJ Spina (Sante Fe CC) moved into the leadoff spot from the nine hole, and the move worked perfectly. Spina had two hits, including his first homerun of the season.
The Dawgs actually struck first in this laugher, using a double and a single with two outs in the first to push across a run. Kyle Hunter (W 1-0, Dartmouth) settled in to throw six strong innings while striking out six to get his first win.
Luke Maile (Kentucky) led off the bottom of the fourth with a single. Kyle Koeneman (LSU) doubled, and Jason Brooks (Dartmouth) singled both home to make it 3-2. After a fly out, Brian Martutartus (Wagner) sacrificed Brooks to second. The next 11 batters reached, including the home run by Spina, and the route was on. Brooks and Mel Rojas Jr. (Wabash Valley CC) each drove in three runs in the frame. All told, 17 men batted, there were nine hits, four Diamond Dog errors, one pitching change, and a runner left on at the end of the inning.
Garret Baker (L 1-1) took the loss for the Diamond Dogs after he couldnt find a way out of the disastrous fourth inning.
Amsterdam added four in the eighth to solidify the win. The Tribe will put their home winning streak on the line again on Friday night against the Albany Dutchmen. First pitch is at 7:05, and fireworks will follow the
game.
