Mohawks Sloppy in Loss at Home

The DiamondDawgs (8-9) won a seesaw affair at Shuttleworth Park Monday night 8-6. Six unearned runs sent the Mohawks (11-7) to their first home loss since the third game of the season.

After a rain delay pushed the start time back by 20 minutes, things started out well for Amsterdam. Mel Rojas Jr. (Wabash Valley CC) tripled and scored on an rbi groundout by Cody Kulp. Sean Bouthilette (Kentucky) cruised through the first two innings, allowing his first hit in three starts but working a four-pitch second inning.

In the third, a two-out error on a dropped third strike extended the inning. Three unearned runs later the Mohawks were in need of a comeback. The situation became graver after two runs scored in the top of the fourth to make it 5-1.

In the bottom of the fourth the Mohawks got their comeback in peculiar fashion. Four walks, two hit batsmen, a two-rbi single by Rojas, and a wild pitch later the Mohawks had a 6-5 advantage.

The DiamondDawgs struck back in the sixth, scoring three runs against the combination of Bouthilette and new Mohawk Derek Zielinski (L 0-1, Le Moyne).

Amsterdam got the tying runner to the plate in the seventh and ninth, but did not score. The team is home again Tuesday night against Watertown. First pitch is at 7:05.
