July Starts with 8-3 Win

The Mohawks (14-7) got six innings out of Dan Zlotnick (W 2-0, Marist) and flawless bullpen delivery to sink the Outlaws (10-10) 8-3. The game was the 21st in a 42 game schedule.

Jon Schwind (Marist) and Matt Conway (Wake Forest) hit their third home runs of the season back-to-back in the first inning to make the score 3-0. Amsterdam touched up Oneonta ace TJ Mullins for his first loss of the season.

Oneonta used four hits to tie the game at 3-3, and threatened again in the fourth, loading the bases with nobody out. Zlotnick brilliantly escaped, tagging out a runner on a slow roller up the third base line, then whiffing the third and fourth hitters in the order.

The offense rewarded Zlotnickļæ½s effort with three runs in the fifth. TJ Jones (Cincinnati) drove in Taylor Lewis (Maine) in the sixth with another insurance run, and then Schwind singled home Kyle Koeneman (LSU) in the eighth with another to make it 8-3. Schwind went 4-5 with five rbi and was a triple away from the cycle.

Abram Williams (Radford) struck out two in the ninth to bring his season total to 19 in just 13.2 innings pitched. He still has not allowed a run this summer.

The Mohawks will take a day off Friday after playing 10 straight days. They return to Shuttleworth on Saturday night at 7:05 to take on Cooperstown. It is the Hawkeyes first visit to Shuttleworth, and fireworks will follow the game.
