Mohawks Mash Hawkeyes 20-3
The Mohawks pounded out 20 runs on 22 hits, both season highs, before the real fireworks started flying at Shuttleworth Park. Second-place Cooperstown (11-10) was the hapless victim. The Hawkeyes trailed from the second inning and the Mohawks poured it on at the end.
Jon Luke Jacobs (Auburn) picked up his first win as a Mohawk, throwing five innings and allowing all three runs. Adam Windsor (Alabama), Jason Patten (Radford), Matt Conway (Wake Forest) and Cody Kulp (Shippensburg) all threw one inning of scoreless relief. Mark Fochesato started and took the loss for Cooperstown.
Conway, Kulp, Brian Martutartus (Wagner), Jason Brooks (Dartmouth), Jon Schwind (Marist), and TJ Spina (Sante Fe CC) all had doubles for the Mohawks. Kulp had two doubles, and Spina�s opened the scored with the bases loaded in the second. Sam Kidd (Kentucky) came off the bench to record his first three hits of the season.
The game was witnessed by 4572 fans who got their fill of offense and fireworks. The Mohawks will play on the road at Albany Monday night. First pitch is 7:05.
