Mohawks Fall Again 7-6
The Mohawks (16-9) rallied for three runs in the ninth to pull even with Oneonta (17-11), but the Outlaws became the first team to beat Abram Williams (Radford, L 0-1). Oneonta got a pinch-hit rbi double from Kyle Boudreau with one out in the ninth to cash in the game winner. It was Williams first run allowed this summer.
Amsterdam trailed from the third inning until the ninth. With two runs already in and the bases loaded, Justin Van Grouw 9Wake Forest) got a double-play lineout and a fly ball to left to avoid further damage.
The Tribe got a run back in the top of the fourth, when Jason Brooks doubled to score Jon Schwind from first on a hit-and-run.
After eight Outlaws batted in the third, nine more came to plate in the fourth, Van Grouw was chased as four unearned runs pushed the lead to 6-1.
Schwind plated Taylor Lewis (Maine) in the fifth to trim the lead. Matt Conway got it even closer with an rbi fielders choice in the seventh.
Entering the ninth down 6-3, Luke Maile (Kentucky) led off with a walk off Brian Denenny after taking over for Lewis due to an injury. Matt Colantonio (Brown) singled, and after an out Jon Schwind hit an rbi double to cash in Maile and put the tying runs in scoring position. Matt Conway hit an rbi groundout, and Jason Brooks drove home the tying run with an opposite field single.
The Mohawks have lost consecutive games for only the second time all season, the second game being a walk-off loss at Oneonta both times. The Outlaws toppled the Mohawks 3-2 on June 20 at Damaschke Field.
The Mohawks return home to face Glens Falls on Friday night. Action begins at Shuttleworth Park at 7:05.
