Mohawks Fall From First

Rick Pacione (Marist) and TJ Jones (Cincinnati) hit their first home runs of the season, but it wasnt enough as the Outlaws (19-13) defeated Amsterdam (17-12) 8-5 to take over first place. Pacione homered twice and Jones had a three-run blast. The loss is the fifth in six games.

Matt Conway (Wake Forest) started on the mound for the Mohawks, but couldnt escape the fourth inning. Conway walked the first three batters of the game, and all three eventually scored. After a scoreless second, Oneonta added a run in the third and two more in the fourth.

Paciones first home run made it 3-1 in the second inning, but double plays ended the bottom of the second and third. With the score 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Jones homered to drive in Luke Maile (Kentucky) and Cody Kulp (Shippensburg).

An unearned run in the fifth and a solo homer by Jared Clarkson in the sixth pushed the Outlaws to a four-run lead. After Clarksons blast Adam Windsor(Alabama), Erik Luksis (Manhattan), and Jon Schwind (Marist) retired the final 12 Outlaw batters.

Paciones home run off Kevin Dickey in the eighth was the first run Dickey had allowed. Oneontas win and Cooperstowns loss puts the Mohawks in second place heading into tomorrows game at Mohawk Valley.

First pitch from Little Falls is at 7:05 as the Mohawks continue a stretch of 12 games on 12 straight days.
