Rain shortens another win

Mother Nature put a damper on tonight's game, but not enough to keep the Mohawks (26-12) from cutting their magic number to clinch the East to one. The Tribe nipped Glens Falls 4-3 in a rain-shortened five-inning affair to extend their winning streak to nine.

AJ Reyes (Polk State) picked up the win to move to 2-0 on the season by pitching a scoreless fifth inning after Sean Bouthilette (Kentucky) labored through the first four innings. Reyes struck out two in his inning of work.

The game was a seesaw battle. Rick Pacione (Marist) tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first by reaching on an error. Sam Kidd (Kentucky) gave Amsterdam it's first lead at 2-1 in the second with an rbi single, but the Mohawks left the bases loaded.

Glens Falls scored twice in the top of the fourth, but again the Tribe battled back. Matt Colantonio (Brown) pinch hit and singled home Taylor Lewis (Maine) on a two-out hit and run. Jon Schwind (Marist) then followed with a double for his 36th rbi of the year. Schwind leads the circuit in runs driven in.

The game was called after an hour rain delay following the fifth inning. The spectacular fireworks display promised to fans was performed during the delay. Amsterdam is now 3-0 in rain shortened games, all of which have been in Bouthilette's starts.

The Tribe can clinch the top spot in the East Division playoffs with a win tomorrow over second-place Oneonta at Damaschke Field. First pitch is at 7:05.
