Win Streak Over at Nine
The Mohawks (26-13) came up just short in their first opportunity to clinch the NYCBL East Division crown. Second-place Oneonta (24-16) escaped with a 7-6 win on their home turf. The Mohawks scored all six of their runs in the top of the eighth inning.
Jon Luke Jacobs(Auburn) made the start and fell behind 6-0 after just three innings. Jacobs battled back to make it through five innings, striking out the side in his final inning of work.
The Tribe threatened in the fourth inning, putting runners on the corners with just one out against Outlaws� hurler Whit Mayberry. Jon Schwind (Marist) was thrown out at the plate attempting to score on Jason Brooks (Dartmouth) fly out.
After Cody Kulp(Shippensburg) got an inning of work on the mound for a scoreless sixth, the Outlaws tacked on a seventh run against Sam Kidd (Kentucky) in the seventh. Jason Patten (Radford) finished up on the mound for the Mohawks.
The bats woke up big in the top of the eighth against Brandon Rohde. TJ Jones (Cincinnati) singled and Kidd reached on an error. Taylor Lewis (Maine) bunted to load the bases. Matt Colantonio (Brown) drove in two runs with a single, then Schwind hammered a two-run triple. Schwind scored on a groundout. Luke Maile (Kentucky) worked a walk and Cody Kulp (Shippensburg) bunted for a hit to chase Rohde. Heath Storey got out of trouble, allowing only one inherited run to score to make the score 7-6.
In the ninth Colantonio and Schwind got into scoring position with two outs. Storey got Maile looking to end the game, securing second place for the Outlaws.
The Mohawks will try and clinch the division crown Monday night in front of the home crowd against last-place Albany. First pitch is at 7:05.
