Extra inning loss dampens home finale

The Mohawks rallied late, but fell in extra innings 8-6 to the Albany Dutchmen. The Tribe is still seeking the East Division crown after a second straight close loss.

Albany jumped out early on a three run home run by Jordan Stouffer off of starter AJ Reyes (Polk State CC). The Mohawks cut it to 3-2 in the first, but Reyes was chased in the fourth with the score 6-3. The Mohawks third run came on Jon Schwind's (Marist) fourth home run of the season.

In the seventh the Mohawks tied the game on an odd sequence. Taylor Lewis (Maine) singled home TJ Jones (Cincinnati) who had doubled. Cody Kulp then struck out on a pitch in the dirt, which was then thrown away letting Lewis score to make it 6-5. Kulp (Shippensburg) moved all the way to third and scored on a wild pitch by CJ Sohl.

Both team stranded runners at third in the eighth, and Albany finally touched up the Mohawks pen that had pitched 4.2 scoreless innings in a row. Jason Patten (Radford) was tagged with the loss as the Mohawks went down in order in the bottom of the 10th.

The Mohawks are back in action Wednesday at Glens Falls. First pitch from East Field is at 7:05.
