Third straight loss for Mohawks
The Mohawks will need to beat Albany on Thursday to clinch the NYCBL East’s top seed. A four-run sixth inning sent Glens Falls (22-19) to a 5-3 win over the Tribe.
Dan Zlotnick (Marist) struggled but stayed tough through five innings. Each team exchanged sacrifice flies in the second. That was the only run Zlotnick allowed.
In the top of the sixth the Mohawks struck hard and fast. Matt Colantonio (Brown) walked and Jon Schwind hit an infield single. Kyle Koeneman (LSU) followed with his second double of the game to make it 2-1. Rick Pacione (Marist) singled home Schwind and moved to second on the throw to the plate. With Koeneman at third and Pacione at second the Mohawks could get nothing on the next three at-bats.
In the bottom of the sixth five straight batters reached with two outs against Justin Van Grouw (Wake Forest), who took the loss. AJ Howard came in for the Golden Eagles to slam the door in a nine-out save-worthy effort.
The Mohawks face Albany at 7:05 at Bleecker Stadium Thursday night. If Albany wins, the Mohawks will tie with Oneonta and the Outlaws tie-breaker will give them the top seed.
