The Amsterdam Mohawks remained hot in a 9-1 victory over the Saugerties Stallions at Rao Family Stadium on Saturday.

In a rematch of last year’s East Division Final, Evan Siary (Mississippi State) retired the first nine Stallions that came to the plate and went five innings, allowing just one hit, one run, one walk and five strikeouts.

Xavier Rodriguez (Webber) started for the Stallions and pitched two innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.

Marko Gibbons (Marist) entered the game in the third and that is when Amsterdam broke through with seven runs. With the bases loaded, Gage Miller (Bishop State CC) was hit by a pitch, bringing home Eddie Yamin (Dayton). Consecutive walks to Bruer Webster (Utah) and Zach Eldred (Brockport) drove in two more runs. Then, a grand slam from Dakota Duffalo (Utah) put the Mohawks up 7-0. Gibbons was pulled after ⅔ innings, conceding two hits, seven earned runs, three walks and one strikeout.

Jack Clifford (SUNY Sullivan) came in to close out the third and stayed in through the fourth, allowing a hit and recording a strikeout.

In the fourth, the Stallions got on the board from an error by Eddy Leon (Marshall) that allowed Evan Dieter (St. Bonaventure) to come home.

Jeremiah Vega (St. Thomas Aquinas) pitched the fifth and sixth innings for Saugerties, walking a batter and striking out another.

For Amsterdam, Joe Gold (Boston College) replaced Siary on the mound in the sixth inning and stayed in through the seventh, allowing a hit, two walks and a strikeout.

Steven Freer (LeMoyne) came out of the bullpen for the Stallions in the seventh inning and that’s when Gage Miller became the sixth Mohawk to reach 10 home runs with a solo blast to make it 8-1.

Amsterdam tacked on one more run in the eighth when a pitch that got away from Kyle Pollack (Marist) allowed Zach Eldred to come home from third.

Jack Seppings (Brown) closed it out on the mound for the Mohawks, pitching two scoreless innings.

With the win, the Mohawks improved to 3-0 and extended their unbeaten streak to 11 games against the Stallions. Saugerties dropped to 0-1 with the loss.

Amsterdam has an off day on Sunday before returning to action on Monday when they travel to Oneonta to take on the Outlaws at 7:00.
