Box Score

Cameron Enck (Maryland) pitched a gem in the East Division Semifinals of the PGCBL Playoffs to lead the Amsterdam Mohawks past the Oneonta Outlaws 8-1 at Shuttleworth Park on Tuesday night.

Enck became the first Amsterdam pitcher to record a start of seven innings all season. He surrendered ten hits, an unearned run, walked one, and struck out four.

The Mohawks offense got off to an early start as well. Andruw Gazzola (Stony Brook) singled to lead off the bottom of the first and stole second before scoring on Nick Patten’s (Delaware) single to center.

The Mohawks tacked on in the third. With one out, Chris Givin (Xavier) walked. Two batters later, Joe Genord (South Florida) doubled to drive in Givin before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Tristen Carranza (New Mexico State) singled to bring in Genord and the Mohawks led 3-0.

The came stayed that close until the sixth. The Mohawks scored three unearned runs to take a 6-0 advantage. Patten singled to start the inning and advanced to third on a Dan Maynard (Maryland) single. Maynard stole second to put both runners in scoring position. Marcus Still (New Mexico State) grounded one to third that was booted by John Hennen (Cleveland State CC), allowing Patten to score. Gazzola followed with a two-run double to left center.

Oneonta finally broke through in the seventh. Derek Kasperzyk (Quinnipiac) doubled to lead off the inning. Kyle Ruedisili (Washington and Lee) singled two batters later and an error by Tyler Frank (Florida Atlantic) allowed Kasperzyk to score.

Amsterdam answered in the bottom half. Genord walked and moved to second on a passed ball before scoring on a Carranza double to center field to make it 7-1. The Mohawks added one more run in the eighth when Maynard scored on a bases loaded walk by Genord.

All eight Mohawks runs came with two outs in the inning. Enck picked up the win on the hill. Oneonta starter Josh Covey (Florence-Darlington Technical College) took the loss after going just 2.2 innings in which he allowed three hits, three runs, walked two, and struck out two.

Amsterdam advances to the PGCBL East Division Finals to face the Albany Dutchmen. Game 1 of the best-of-three series begins at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday night at Shuttleworth Park in Amsterdam.
